He was last seen in the late afternoon leaving the Royal Botanic Gardens near Kwinana.
Police have taken over the investigation.
“We know he’s at the Melbourne Police Service, and the most important thing is, we have a missing person’s report from another place,” Crime C블랙 잭ommissioner Mick Keogh said.
Inspector Keogh said while police received hundreds of phone calls and emails from the public, their priority had been to make contact.
“I just hope they are in the right place, they’re trying to catch what they can so that he can be re-united with his family,” he said.
He said he believed Mr Boyden’s disappearance could have been discovered in part due to a search of another part of the city, the inner west, where Mr Boyden was last seen.
“The inner west is one of the largest areas to hunt for missing people, particularly in the early hours of the morning, so we’re looking at a very small area where we’re not sure exactly where he’s gone down there,” he said.
“But it’s at times where our forensics team are trying to understand all the circumstances and circumstances that could possibly have led up to his being found, but ultimately they’ll be able to make that determination.”
Detective Senior Superintendent Peter O’Rourke said detectives were trying to trace Mr Boyden.
He said the family had asked police to allow them to re-interview Mr Boyden at an earlier stage before they asked the search and rescue (SAR) operations unit to conduct a more extended search.
“It’s a decision that we’re always trying to make and it’s been very successful in those circumstances,” he said.
“We still have a large team out there, we’re in some sort of process of reconstruction over the next 24 hours.
