Wyoming oil spill puts public in the middle

The latest incident — an oil spill of a magnitude 5.4 in central Wyoming, near the town of Vanda — is the second time in less than two years the company has spilled oil to the public, according to the Associated Press.
“This is not an emergency,” the company says in a press release. “This will be our last time being at the scene.”
But on Monday, state and federal regulators acknowledged that a spill of 10,000 barrels spilled 2,000 barrels of oil in a field west of the town.
The spill, which started at about 11:30 a.m. (4:30 p.m. ET), hit a field off of Vanda Road, about 40 miles northwest of Horseshoe Point.
According to the AP, as much as 1,000 barrels were spilled.
Federal regulators, however, said they didn’t immediately classify the oil incident as a major oil spill. They did provide a series of estimates of how much oil leaked from one well in the area.
온라인바카라“Although we did not determine a significant amount of crude in the ground or the extent to which a containment area formed from a large portion of this spilled crude, [we] did conclude that there was potentially significant oil in the vicinity of a well,” according to the Department of the Interior’s Environmental Protection Agency.
In a statement issued after the incident occurred, the Montana-based company said that it plans to send a crew to examine and determine what caused the spill.
But state regulators said that they weren’t aware of anything that would confirm or contradict the company’s earlier conclusions about what caused the spill.
“It is in everyone’s interest that these documents and information are held accountable in the fullest manner possible,” the Montana Department of Environment and Mineral Resources said in a news release.
The agency’s release said it was prepared to deploy divers to the area, with any spill potential “determined after determining the depth of the spill, determining the extent of the damage and determining the extent of the public health threats.”
